The Crewel Work Company Redwork Parrot

  • $119.00

This cheerful bird is a detail in an altar frontal, circa 1650. Believed to be a ‘travelling’ altar frontal, the piece was created for Catholic services during a time of conflict and religious uncertainty in the mid 17th Century. The whole original altar frontal was embroidered using natural cochineal-dyed fine red embroidery wool. The same fine quality natural cochineal hand-dyed wool is also included in this kit.
