Silk Wrapped Purl #4

These gorgeous threads are made from copper wire wrapped with filament silk and then coiled over a mandrel into  a purl. This is a new size which joins the other Au Ver a Soie unique specialty threads, providing an opportunity for creative raised embroidery effects. It is larger than the standard Silk Wrapped Purl size #2 but not as large as size #8. They are couched in place as is, with matching silk threads, such as Au Ver a Soie 100/3 or Soie Paris. The purls can be couched down to outline and fill figures. They can also be stretched and left kinky to form hair for lions or people in stumpwork. Often they are cut into shorter pieces and sewn on fabric like a large bead, flattened to create an entirely different look or threaded onto silk to be sewn in place, forming loops which stick up off the fabric.
