Milliners needles are sometimes referred to as Straw needles and are traditionally used in hat making. These needles are long with round eyes and are ideal when used in the art of pleating and creating fancy decorative needlework or commonly known as smocking. We offer regular milliners in size 10 and assorted milliners needles in sizes 3 to size 9 and a pack containing size 5 to size 10.
Milliners/Straw needles are ideal for bullion embroidery. They have a longer shaft than most needles and can accommodate a larger number of wraps. The diameter of the shaft is consistent for almost the entire length of the needle, tapering off just before the point. The eye is only marginally wider than the shaft. This enables the wraps to be more uniform in size.
